THE instant celebrity-hero is now P10, 000 richer after the local government unit of Ozamiz City commended for his act of bravery and heroism in detecting and transferring of an improvised explosive device (IED) found inside the bus, stationed at Integrated Bus and Jeepney Terminal (IBJT) this city.
A simple awarding ceremony is held at Mayor’s office, March 31, attended by Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog, Sr.; Vice-mayor Carlos Patrico Bernad;Lucy Cabalit, general services officer; Superintendent Raul Diones, PNP Ozamiz chief of police; department heads and the members of the press.
Aside from a P10, 000 cash, Security guard Serafin E. Maisa of Western Mindanao Security Agency (WMSA) receives a certificate of recognition from the LGU through the Disaster Coordinating Council encrypting his courageous acts.
Along with Maisa are SPO1 Wilfredo Pelare and PO3 Renato Martir from the Ozamiz PNP and members of Explosive Ordnance Department (EOD) unit also commended of their bravery and heroic acts in detonating explosive found by Maisa.
Saying that what they have done is part of their job, both Pelare and Martir also received a certificate of recognition.
Parojinog thanked Maisa’s bravery in transferring the bomb without panic five meters away from the bus if exploded might harm hundreds of people.
“Ako sab nga gipasalamatan sila si Pelare ug Martir kay kon wala sab sila peligro ang maong bomba basin unya og makabuto”, Parojinog added.
In his part superintendent Diones said that he will recommend Pelare and Martir for promotion.
Maisa was doing his ‘routine check’ when he discovered the explosive, enclosed in a cellophane inside the bus, was composed of one half kilo of TNT, a blasting cap, and unknown substances.
Aircon bus number 902 was from Pagadian City arrives in Ozamiz IBJT at 10:00 in the morning.
